Photovoltaic green facade: winning project at eCitySevilla
The photovoltaic green facade presented by Biren + AGi architects was the winning proposal in the challenge sponsored by eCitySevilla. This solution stands out for its innovation, sustainability, and ability to integrate solar energy into the architectural architecture of the Cartuja University Campus buildings.

1. Winners of the eCitySevilla challenge

The firms Biren + AGi architects and Urbantech Titania have emerged as winners of the challenge launched by eCitySevilla to find innovative solutions for installing photovoltaic energy on the facades of the buildings of the Cartuja University Campus.

2. What does the photovoltaic green facade proposal consist of?

BIREN, a leading engineering and architectural firm specializing in renewable energy integration projects in urban environments and a distributor of BIPV products from European manufacturers, has presented a proposal in collaboration with AGi Architects entitled “Photovoltaic Green Facade.”

This proposal proposes a ventilated façade fully integrated into the building envelope, in which BIPV photovoltaic modules are anchored to a self-supporting wooden structure adaptable to different building types. The design is completed with the installation of a green façade on the curtain wall.

3. Environmental and design benefits

This “Photovoltaic Green Facade” features an innovative ventilated façade and/or curtain wall design that improves the building’s thermal insulation and interior comfort through the penetration of natural light.
Furthermore, the use of a self-supporting wooden structure makes the solution easily replicable, renewable, local, and low in CO₂ emissions, contributing to the decarbonization of the science and technology park’s surroundings and creating an exterior aesthetic symbiosis reminiscent of nature.

4. Objectives of the eCitySevilla project for 2025

A 100% renewable energy supply
Efficient buildings
Deployment of charging points for sustainable electric mobility
A connected, intelligent and autonomous system for your management

5. Do you want to develop a photovoltaic green facade?

At BIREN, we collaborate with architectural and engineering firms to bring innovative solutions to life. We are involved in every phase of the project, ensuring that the integration of renewable energy is efficient, aesthetically pleasing, and tailored to the needs of the environment.

Do you have an idea or project in progress? Let’s talk and we’ll help you make it happen.

What is a photovoltaic green facade?

It is an architectural solution that combines integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules with natural vegetation within the building envelope. It allows for solar energy generation, improved thermal insulation, and aesthetic and environmental benefits.

Why did this proposal win the eCitySevilla challenge?

The proposal by BIREN and AGi architects has been recognized for its innovative design, low environmental impact, ease of replication, and its ability to integrate into different building types with renewable energy and vegetation.

What benefits does a photovoltaic green facade offer?

It improves the building’s interior comfort, reduces energy consumption, provides a natural aesthetic to the urban environment, and contributes to the decarbonization of the technology park.
