Self-consumption aid program of the Recovery Plan

If you’re thinking about switching to solar energy, the self-consumption grants included in the Recovery Plan may be just what you need. These subsidies, managed by the IDAE (National Institute of Statistics and Census), are designed to facilitate the installation of self-consumption systems for both self-employed individuals and businesses. Here we provide key details on how to take advantage of them.

1. Are you self-employed and thinking about installing a self-consumption system?

There is a self-consumption aid program under the Recovery Plan through the IDAE (Spanish National Institute of Statistics and Census) from which you can benefit.

Self-employed workers are included as beneficiaries of the self-consumption promotion subprograms and may deploy self-consumption facilities in a workplace other than their home. Furthermore, a specific quota may be reserved for them in budget increases.

2. Measures covered by self-consumption aid

Among the measures covered by self-consumption aid are the following:
For photovoltaic solar energy, subsidies range from 15% for a large company to 45% for an SME or a system under 10 kW; individuals can benefit from 40%, 50% for collective self-consumption, and public administrations from 70%.
For behind-the-meter storage, subsidies for companies range from 45% to 65%, depending on size, while individuals, governments, and the third sector benefit from 70%. The storage capacity allowed for installation is being increased from 2 kWh/kW to 5 kWh/kW, in line with the increasing popularity of storage solutions.
Furthermore, and in order to address the demographic challenge, all these items will increase by 5% in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants and in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants in rural areas whose individual population centers have fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.

3. An opportunity to promote self-consumption

The Recovery Plan’s self-consumption aid program is an excellent opportunity for self-employed individuals, businesses, and individuals to invest in clean energy with financial support. The available subsidies, along with incentives for rural areas, make this the ideal time to take the step toward energy self-consumption.
